Sole survivor of fifty one grandchildren. Page 38 Samuel Miller, Sr. Some Facts about Samuel Miller, Sr., and His Descendants. Samuel Miller's parents lived in Scotland but came to Ireland about 1714 on account of the insurrection. Samuel Miller, Sr., was born in Ireland in 1717, and lived there untill sometime in 1748 or ‘50, when he emigrated to America. While on shipboard coming to America he became acquainted with a lady he married sometime after his arrival here. After his marriage he and his wife resided near Hickory, Mt Pleasant Township, Washington County, Pa., where their twelve children were born. During the Whiskey Insurrection, in 1794, General Lee made Samuel Miller's home his headquarters. Samuel Miller lived in Mt Pleasant Township until his death which occurred in 1819. Children of Samuel Miller Isaac Miller. John Miler. Jennet Miller, who married Thomas Love. James Miller. Born 1764, died May 30, 1847. He came to Beaver County in the spring of 1798 and located near Mill creek. He was married in 1792 to Polly Russel, daughter of Andrew Russel, Sr., of Mt. Pleasant Township. She was born in 1757, and died January 15, 1841. Agnes Miller was born March 20, 1768, died May 3, 1858. She married George Shillito in 1791. He was born in 1762 and died December 8, 1848. Mary Miller, who married Richard More. Samuel Miller. Robert Miller. David Miller, who married Elisabeth McCreight. Elizabeth Miller, who married William McCracken (McCachen) Martha Miller, who married William More. Nancy Miller, who married Samuel Shillito, (Nancy is not mentioned in the will.) Children of James Miller Son of Samuel Miller Sr, Samuel Miller who married Elizabeth Morrison. Andrew Russell Miller born October 31, 1797, died October 30, 1891. He purchased 77 acres of land in 1836 from Sam Carson, on the Beaver and Frankfort road, where his grandson Ed. Miller still lives. He was married to Jane McCullough who was born in 1800 and died June 6, 1852. His second wife was Mrs. Eliza McBurney Harper, widow of Major James Harper. John Miller, who married Amelia Ramsey. After her death he married Mary Henderson. Ramsey Miller was a son by the first marriage, and was a physician. He moved to Hamilton, Illinois, and later father and step mother followed him there, where they both died. Ramsey Miller married Eliza Kennedy of McCleary, Beaver Co., P. They had eight children: Dr. Auston, Angeline, Homer, Maggie, Emma, Rev. Albert. Clara, Romanna. He had four brothers and one sister. The sister married Dr, John McCarroll. Both she and her husband died at Wellsville, Ohio. James Alexander Miller who was married on December 21, 1837, to Eleanor Creswell, of Colliers. Va. They made their home at the Torrance mill on Tittle Traverse, Hanover Twp., untill April 1, 1835. Here their ten children were born, seven of whom lived to maturity. In 1853 they removed to Calcutta, Columbiana Count, Ohio, and at a later date they moved to New Concord, Ohio, where they spent the remainder of their lives. James A. Miller died November 21, 1883, aged 72 years and three months. His wife died the following June, at the age of seventy-three years. Of these godly people it can truthfully be said: "They were all righteous before God, walking in all the commandments of the Lord blameless." They were truly children of the covenant. They had the pleasure of seeing their children claim the covenant promises for themselves. Four of their five daughters married and lived useful lives in various locations. May Miller taught at Muskingum College and elsewhere. The two sons — James Russell and Robert Johnson, the oldest and youngest of the family — both became ministers and both were called to the editor's chair — the former as editor of the Sabbath school literature of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, in Philadelphia. He served as editor for thirty-two years — untill his death, which occurred July 2, 1912. He was author of many devotional books, which found their way into all parts of the world. Robert Johnson has filled a similar position with the United Presbyterian Board of Publication and Bible School Work, in Pittsburgh, Pa., for more than half a century. Of these two sons, James Russell was the father of two sons and one daughter, all now living in Philadelphia. His son Russel King Miller is a well known musical composer. In addition to the children of James Alexander Miller designated above, there were four daughters who married. These were (1) Mrs, Belle V. Chrisholm, who was the mother of two daughters and a son. The two daughters live in New York City and Philadelphia respectively. And one of the two sons — Rev. Harry T. Chrisholm — is pastor of the Presbyterian Church at East Brady, Pa. (2) Mrs. Ella J. Henderson. Her only daughter, Ella C., lives in Ottawa, Kansas. (3) Mrs. Ann M. More. She had one daughter and two sons. The daughter is Mrs. Ivy Milligan, wife of Rev. H. O. Milligan of Avalon, Pa. They have one son, William Milligan. The two sons were Paul More and James R. More, well known businessmen in Aliquippa, Pa. Of these James R., was born March 19, 1885. He married Olive E.
