Daily Devotionals

A daily devotional contains a short reading for every day of the year.

Dr. Miller's first devotional was called Bits of Pasture. It was ‘culled and arranged’ by Mary A. Butler and gathered from manuscript sermons written Dr. Miller. It was published in 1890 by the Presbyterian Board of Publication and Sabbath-School Work, of which James Miller held the post of assistant to the Editorial Secretary. Later the book was reissued as In Green Pastures. This was the second book we put on line.

The other two devotionals that are on line are Come Ye Apart and Morning thoughts. Working through all the books chronologically

In 1906 there were two titles published.

  1. Morning thoughts for Every Day of the Year published by Thomas Y Crowell & Company, NY
  2. A Message for Every Day, A Year`s Daily Readings published by Hodder & Stoughton, London

This might be the same book. Time will tell.

Various Christian Web sites are publishing a verse from one of Millers devotionals on a daily basis.

Miller Archive posts a reading from Morning Thoughts to the newsgroup alt.religion.christian.biblestudy on a daily basis. The group is the most active Christian newsgroup on the Web, which is why it was selected. However it is unmoderated and I am sure Dr. Miller would not approve of the opinions and language of many of the posters.

Tracts Online posts a reading from Come Ye Apart on its home page every day.

Life Bible-Presbetarian Church in Singapaore, also posts a reading from Come Ye Apart on its devotions page every day. They will also email you a verse every day.
