The Life of Dr. J.R. Miller (1912 ) by John T. Faris.
Blessed be Drudgery (1886) by William C Gannett. In 1891, J.R. Miller D.D. wrote the book Making the Most of Life. In chapter 6: The Blessing of a Burden there is mention of A recent writer who suggests a new beatitude: Blessed be drudgery. Again in 1901 The Rev. Miller writing in The Ministry of Comfort Chapter 18 Stumbling at the Disagreeable says “A genial writer has given us a new beatitude — ‘Blessed be drudgery!’ and in a delightful essay proves that we owe to what we speak of ordinarily as drudgery the best things in our life and character.”
A Beautiful Possibility (1904) by Edith Ferguson Black. Feguson is not mentioned by Miller, but Ferguson does mention Gannet.
Margaret Ogilvy (1896) by James Matthew Barrie. Dr. Miller mentions this book in The Beauty of Self Control Chapter 13 What Christ Is To Me Miller writes about the chapter How My Mother Got Her Soft Face.
Sky Pilot: A Tale of the Foothills (1896) by Ralph Connor. Dr. Miller quotes extensively from from chapter 11: Gwen's Challenge in A Garden of the Heart Chapter 4 Christ's Call for the Best.
In His Seps (1896) by Charles Monroe Sheldon. In 1885, eleven years before Charles Sheldon wrote his best seller, Dr. Miller published a booklet also entitled In His Seps.
