Bits of Pasture

or

Handfuls of Grass for the Lord’s Hungry Sheep

Being selections from sermons of J. R. Miller
Culled and arranged by Mary A. Butler

“He maketh me lie down in green pastures.”

Notes

The book Bits of Pasture was ‘culled and arranged’ by Mary A. Butler gathered from manuscript sermons written Dr. Miller

Preface and Dedication

The book Bits of Pasture has 255 pages and contains one sermon for every day of the year except New Years’s day and Chrismas day which have two, giving a total of 368 sermons.

Bits of Pasture was published in 1890 by the Presbyterian Board of Publication and Sabbath-School Work

Some time later Bits of Pasture was reissued as In Green Pastures. The two books are identical except for:—

  1. Mary A. Butler's dedication and preface are missing from the later work.
  2. The sermon for January 3rd, originaly called The Bible in Character-Building has been renamed to Scripture Truth. The text is still identical

It would be illogical to have both books on this site as they are nearly identical. While the quaint title Bits of Pasture and its even more whimsical secondary title of Handfuls of Grass for the Lord’s Hungry Sheep have a certain apeal. It was decided to adopt the beter known In Green Pastures

So, to read Bits of Pasture, the reader is directed to the In Green Pastures pages.
